The Optical Crew Resource Analyzer (OCRA) is a fully integrated eye tracking device, allowing the determination and instant correction of the trainee’s scan patterns and focus, by almost seeing through the pilot’s eyes.
Not only during the training will the tool be of significant benefit, but also during the debriefing. The entire training is stored for analysis with the trainee after the training session. As instructor, you can really “show” the trainee what needs improvement.
Interaction
Interacting with the OCRA is "the Blink" which allows the instructor, in real time, to make any given gauge light up for a second to attract the trainees attention. With this feature, a proper scanning pattern can be easily taught to the trainee. IR training is so much easier for both the instructor and the pilot.
Training in aviation is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies such as:
Professional attention control
Scanning the instruments appropriate to the specific maneuver and situation
Being able to interpret this perceived information
Multi Crew Concept Training
Crew Resource Management
System Configuration
The OCRA system combines all required components for efficient high-quality eye movement and scene video recordings into a single high-performance PC workstation. The system consists of a computer, controls, display, helmet with head-up eye tracker, 3 high resolution infra red cameras and a data recorder. Real time image processing, calibration, auxiliary device control, data and video recording are all integrated in one easy-to-use application.
The modular system design of OCRA, where changes between remote camera and head mounted configurations require just the press of a button, enables easy adaptation to changing applications. The OCRA system is provided as a working solution from the day of installation. It is delivered fully integrated, pre-configured, and tested. The adaptation to typical lab settings can be prepared at the factory, so that recording can start immediately.
Advantages
Operator monitors all information channels
Allows instant reaction to and annotation of the trainee’s scan pattern
Records trainee scan pattern and voice intercom for debriefing and later
OCRA transfers the advantages of Video-Training directly into cognitive training.
Self recognition- objective reflection of own behavior
Root cause detection of an event
Gaining of cognition through audio visual feedback of recordings in addition to instructor comments
Self realization- trainee is getting objective feedback of increasing training success
